A simple question needs to be asked.
It’s one that comes just a few weeks after the US State Department gave a friendly warning to Australia to get control of its exploding immigration intake.
Why is the US government doing more to combat mass immigration in Australia than both Labor and the Liberal Party
“We love the Australian people. We love Australia. As a country, it’s a great ally,” a State Department official told reporters. But, he said, “We want to caution the Australians.”
“If you import a rapid number of individuals of any background, particularly of a culture that’s radically different from Australia’s … that can lead to political unrest, that can lead to economic instability.”
And while Labor stubbornly refuses to admit immigration’s role in creating the housing crisis, the US official placed it front and centre.
“One thing we’re particularly concerned about on the human rights front is the strains that large influxes of migrants can place on markets, particularly housing markets.”
Not just housing either, but “the impacts that it has on the safety of women and girls, on religious freedom, on property rights, on national sovereignty, on crime, human trafficking.”
When was the last time you heard a Labor government minister speak so plainly about immigration?
Better yet, when was the last time you heard the Liberal Party opposition come out this tough on immigration?
In fact, not only has the Liberal Party not come out against mass immigration – they’ve professed a bizarre bipartisan belief that Australia isn’t witnessing mass immigration at all.
“I don’t think we have in Australia a situation of ‘mass migration’ or ‘mass immigration,” Shadow Immigration Minister Paul Scarr told The Guardian last month.
That is a position that is politically indistinguishable from The Greens.
Is Australia really not experiencing mass immigration?
We’re set to take in 2 million migrants by the end of Albo’s second term.
Over 30 per cent of our population is now first-generation migrants, and that number is growing rapidly.
Nearly one in 11 here is a temporary migrant.
That is mass immigration.
At the same time, Labor ministers have come out warning against pursuing major cuts, saying that immigration “should be a bipartisan issue.”
But it already is a bipartisan issue.
Just for the wrong reason.
The bipartisan consensus between Labor and Liberal seems to be that mass immigration is not happening at all, and it’s good that it is.
Both sides are quick to celebrate Australia’s massive immigration intake for fixing non-existent skills shortages, propping up failing universities, and delivering greater diversity.
But in the same breath, they will tell you that mass immigration isn’t happening – ignoring the obvious side effects of the issue they were a moment ago celebrating.
It’s politics by gaslighting.
In just one press conference, the State Department has revealed Australia’s political class for what it really is. Hopelessly out of touch with the changing global consensus on immigration. Removed from the mounting concerns of struggling Australians. And deaf to the warnings of our biggest allies.
Our representatives need to wake up to the new world they’ve found themselves in. Many of our them grew up in a time when immigration was seen as an unmitigated, globally-recognised good – but today, times are changing.
President Donald Trump, in a Thanksgiving post, said he was permanently pausing all immigration from “third-world countries” to “allow the U.S system to fully recover.” “Only REVERSE MIGRATION can fully cure this situation.”
Another post by the State Department in the past few weeks also classified “mass immigration” as a civilisational threat.
“Mass migration poses an existential threat to Western civilization and undermines the stability of key American allies,” it read.
“Mass migration is a human rights concern. Western nations have endured crime waves, terror attacks, sexual assaults, and the displacement of communities.”
Meanwhile, shadow ministers from our own centre-right party can’t even bring themselves to utter the words “mass migration”.
This is not the time to be sensitive on the issue – America’s actions show now is the time to be tough.
We are facing a future of chaos and carnage if we can’t accept the seriousness of the issue. And the Liberal Party faces its own disappearance if it fails to follow the GOP into becoming the anti-mass immigration party.
Australia’s mass immigration crisis is driving a cost-of-living catastrophe, fundamentally altering our cities, clashing with our culture and lifestyle, and impacting our democracy.
It is humiliating and ridiculous that to date, the strongest political opposition to this hasn’t even come from our own representatives, but from allies overseas.
Our American friends have extended a helping hand and a serious warning.
It is shameful that both Labor and the Liberal Party have ignored them.
